Inspired by a classic Italian sandwich, this wholesome pasta dish is made with all-natural chicken sausage, fresh bell peppers, and grated parmesan cheese.

Ingredients

olive oil

1 cup

onion, chopped

red bell peppers, diced

2

green bell peppers, diced

cloves garlic, minced

4 cups

marinara or tomato basil pasta sauce

1/2 teaspoon

crushed red pepper flakes

cooked pasta or polenta, as needed

chopped fresh basil, as needed

grated parmesan cheese, as needed

Directions

  1. Heat oil in large sauté pan over medium heat. Add onion, bell peppers and garlic; sauté 10 minutes. Add sausage to pan and sauté 5 minutes. Add pasta sauce and pepper flakes and simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  2. For each serving, spoon 2/3 cup sauce over 3 ounces cooked pasta or 2/3 cup cooked polenta. Garnish with basil and cheese.
