Ingredients

Butter

Large yellow onion, sliced

1 teaspoon

Balsamic vinegar

Slices of bread

4 ounces

Shredded or sliced Swiss cheese

6 slices

Jones Dairy Farm Sliced Braunschweiger Liverwurst, from 8 oz. package

Directions

  1. Heat 2 tablespoons butter in a large pot. Add onions; reduce heat to low and cover. Slowly cook onions, stirring frequently, until caramelized, about 30 minutes.

  2. Remove cover and stir in balsamic vinegar. Cook for 1 minute. Remove from heat and allow to cool.

  3. Preheat large skillet over medium heat. Spread ½ tablespoon butter on each slice of bread.

  4. Place 1 slice bread, butter-side down, in the skillet.

  5. Top with 3 slices Braunschweiger Liverwurst, 2 tablespoons onions and 2 ounces cheese. Place another slice of bread on top (butter-side up).

  6. Cook until the bottom slice is lightly browned, then flip. Continue cooking until the cheese is melted. Repeat to make the other sandwich.
